Crossing Over
July 22, 2019

Standing on the side of the road, I see a group of deer attempt to cross the street to the other side.
All make it, but one.
I watch. She moves.
Stops.
Hesitates, as oncoming traffic halts her momentary courage.
The road is clear.
I will her on, “GO!”
She waits. Another two-ton enemy approaches.
“No WAIT–it’s not safe!”
She waits as if she hears my mind.
The road is clear.
She leans slightly forward before taking a step.
She crosses over.
I notice her friends on the other side have been watching and waiting for her.
She catches up, and they move together as one.
It is time to cross over to the other side.
