The Lesser of Two Evils: A Political Post for my Christian Friends, and Curious Agnostics

Right foot, left foot

Whether you to the right or to the left…

Listen for a voice.

Walk in it.

They didn’t know their right from the left.

No, I’m not talking Dr. Seuss.

Nineveh.

Hardly nirvana, they were the epitome of evil.

Yet Jonah ran from the call to warn them of their upcoming destruction.

God didn’t want to destroy the nation, He wanted to draw them near.

Jonah, in anger, was interested in their annihilation.

But after time out in the belly of a large fish, he begrudgingly goes. After, God gives him an illustration of a plant, a plant that Jonah has more concern over than the entire nation,

“You pity the plant, for which you did not labor, nor did you make it grow, which came into being in a night and perished in a night. And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know their right hand from their left…”

Both the evil city, and the hard-hearted believer were off the mark.

Both the nation, and the individual, tainted by sin.

That’s what sin does. It destroys our focus of who and what is really important.

If you’re entering the voting booth this November, or sooner (I happen to be voting today), remember if you enter in anger or rage for the other opponent–

Or fear of your wallet–

Or anything else that precedes the heart of God for mankind, here and outside our country’s walls, to a Heavenly kingdom without walls–

Then I ask you today to stop.

I encourage you, not to change your position, but your posture.

Be still.

Listen.

In humility, seek first His Kingdom, by seeking His heart.

By searching our own hearts.

Not CNN.

Not Fox.

Or any other outlet.

He is the only one who sees clearly, because HE is truth. He is Love. He is the Beginning and The End. He is Hope. He is Justice. He is IN CONTROL of elections, borders, nations–He is both Creator, and Sustainer.

Then enter the booth full of His love for the heart of the lost and broken of this world. Which by the way, cross all party lines.

It could be the side you’ve always registered is no longer so.

Or it may confirm your decision.

Or perhaps you will jump ship (Not like Jonah) to another, less known, party line.

Sorry, I’m not going to tell you who (or is it whom my grammar friends) receives my vote.

He may just surprise you.

Or maybe He just may relieve the unnecessary burden you’ve shouldered on your too small shoulders.

In love and freedom,

Josie

Thank you Cindy! Your words encourage…yes my hope as of late, especially with all the hurt and anger all around, is that one emotion is far more powerful, and that is love. His love in us…His love reaching others through us. This is how I default when the world is off its axis!!!

This was very articulately stated but even more important, it resonated within my heart. All too often I allow my anger for the evil-doers to fill my mind with hate-filled come-backs instead of recognizing and allowing God His rightful place as Organizer and Master of the universe.
Thank you for this poignant reminder.

Thank you for your transparency – I too struggle in this area, which only turns my focus toward evil, and not Him. I remember early on with all the turmoil, laying in my closet (where i go to pray), crying out to God, or at God, tears…”I feel like they are mocking you Lord.” But, I love your description…He is the Organizer and Master. And I too take comfort in this.
